Your life is your reality. The thoughts you habitually entertain become your beliefs. Your reality is created by your beliefs. Your beliefs influence your actions. And your actions determine your life results. Your beliefs; usually subconscious, are often the result of lifelong programming/conditioning and represent a powerful influence on human behaviour. To get a different life printout (results), you have to rewrite the software of your mind (your thinking).
Neuro-science indicates that as much as 95% of our consciousness is actually subconscious; meaning that we are not even aware of what and why it’s happening. The subconscious mind is the storehouse of our attitudes, beliefs, and values. It is from our beliefs that we form perceptions about the world, others and ourselves, and from these perceptions, we develop behaviours. Obviously, it is our self-defeating behaviours we wish to change. Often, the most effective way to change a behaviour is to change the subconscious belief(s) that support it.
Many people harbour self-limiting subconscious beliefs in the areas of health, career, relationships, self-esteem, body issues, financial abundance and spirituality, and have no idea why things do not work out in these areas despite trying their best. Their problems are subconscious and can only be changed at that level. Your beliefs are the foundation of your personality. They define you as worthy or worthless, powerful or powerless, competent or incompetent, trusting or suspicious, belonging or outcast, self-reliant or dependent, flexible or judgmental, loving or hateful, fairly treated or victimized, loved or hated, kind or cruel, and so much more. Your beliefs have far-reaching consequences, both positive and negative in your life. Your beliefs form your reality and by changing your beliefs, you can turn your life around.
Beliefs affect your moods, self-esteem, relationships, job performance, physical & mental health, even your spiritual and religious outlooks. The moment you believe something is true, it becomes true for you and the moment you believe something is possible, it becomes possible for you, and not others. The inverse is also true: the moment you believe something is impossible, it becomes impossible just for you, and no one else.
The conclusions (i.e. beliefs, attitudes, values) drawn from our past experiences are stored in the subconscious mind, below the level of conscious awareness. These subconscious beliefs create the perceptual filters through which we view the world and respond to life’s challenges. The more emotionally charged the experience (usually traumatic) we go through, the more likely it will be stored for future reference and the more likely we will automatically respond using a behaviour we formed when that event first happened – when faced with similar life experiences in the future.
Remember that at least 95% of our consciousness is subconscious; meaning that we are mostly unaware of their influence on us. Our subconscious beliefs direct our observable actions and behaviours. They form the basis of our actions and reactions to each new situation in our lives. In other words; our behaviours are a direct reflection of our beliefs, perceptions, and values generated from past experiences. Our beliefs establish the limits of what we can achieve.
